Welcome!  We are a small scale rattery located in Lansdale, which is northwest of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  SLR is dedicated to breeding healthy, sweet tempered, and handsome rats.  To achieve such high goals, we maintain the following standards... We breed only a few litters per year.  This allows us to focus our full attention on each litter, ensuring proper socialization. Our rattery is NOT a wholesale breeder.  We do NOT sell feeders, nor do we sell to pet stores.   Please understand that we will not sell to any breeder who does so and such applications will be rejected. We do not cull litters or breeding stock.  All our rats are considered pets first, and therefore many live out their entire lives here.  They are all spoiled rotten!
				Only healthy rats are permitted to leave our rattery.  We do not sell rats we know to be sick.  SLR is privileged to have an excellent veterinarian, and we certainly utilize his services if and when needed.  Any serious illnesses (megacolon, cancerous tumors, etc) discovered in one of our rats that may be deemed hereditary will be posted to keep buyers informed.   Breeding of any rats related to such will stop, and the line will end. Agressive rats are not bred at our rattery.  Any rats that show signs of such undesirable behavior after already having been bred will not be bred again.  Offspring of that rat will not be available for breeding and will be sold as pets only. All SLR rats are registered with NARR.  Pedigrees are kept on all our breeding lines.  We do not breed rats purchased from pet stores as we do not purchase rats from pet stores anyway.   Pedigrees for new litters will be posted on this site.  Past pedigrees are available upon request.
		All potential buyers must fill out an application.  SLR reserves the right not to sell rats to anyone we feel might not meet the requirements (knowledge of rat care, health, etc).  We will only sell breeding rats to knowledgeable, reputable breeders.  SLR also does not sell rats to anyone under the age of 18.  We also reserve the right to cancel any reservation at any time for any reason.  This measure may be used if future breeding plans change, unfavorable knowledge of a potential buyer is obtained, a buyer does not reply to e-mail in a timely fashion, or other exceptional situations arise.
								All of our rats are kept in proper housing.  We use Martin's Cages for most of our rats.  Marchiaro cages are used for breeding, the elderly, and health emergencies.  For safety, aquariums are used for pregnant females and their litters. **We had a special room built in our new home just for our pets.  Extra high outlets were installed, a small ceiling fan for warmer days, and linoleum flooring for easy sanitization.** Currently, we use Hunt Club bedding  in their homes, and their cages are cleaned and sanitized on a regular basis.  Aspen is used for babies.  Pine and cedar are never used. Our rats are fed a diet consisting mainly of Harlan Teklad lab blocks 2014 and 2018.  Veggies and fruit, whole grains (they love Cheerios so much!), Nutro Lite dog food, and the occasional treat are used to supplement their diet. Currently we specialize in Russian Blue.  Other colors and patterns bred include American Blue, "High Whites" (of safe, MC free lines), and Downunders.
